Attar Buying Guide for Your Signature Fragrance

Attar (also called itr or ittar) is a pure, concentrated oil-based fragrance made by steam-distilling flowers, herbs, or resins into a sandalwood or carrier oil base. It contains no alcohol. Perfume is a fragrance compound dissolved in alcohol. Attars last longer on skin (8–16 hours vs 4–8 hours for most perfumes), feel more skin-friendly especially for sensitive skin, and carry a warmer, more intimate character. Alcohol-based perfumes project more immediately but fade faster and can irritate skin.

Start with a scent family you already enjoy in deodorants or body washes — fresh/aquatic, floral, or woody. If you like clean fresh scents, try Aqua Serenity or Blue Musk.
